Started in 1995, T & E, Inc. represents the result of a dream shared by Tom and Eleanor Wootten to positively affect protection and preservation of our natural resources. The thrust of the corporation is along three lines:
The corporation is a tax-exempt 501c private foundation incorporated under
New Mexico laws. Copies of Articles of Incorporation
are on file with the New Mexico Corporation Commission. Income tax returns
are on file with the New Mexico Attorney General. Sources of
funding have included individuals, and wildlife related organizations, but
is primarily provided by the Wootten family.
Funding for political activities has been minimal to none. It is our intent
to concentrate funds in research and educational projects. The
majority of grants have gone to researchers at New Mexico State University
and University of Arizona, but have including the University
of New Mexico, University of Texas at El Paso, University of Texas at Austin,
and Universidad Autonoma de Chihuahua. Northern Arizona
University will be added in year 2001.Projects have involved work in cooperation
with or conjunction with US
Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, US Fish and Wildlife Service, National
Park Service, Arizona and New Mexico Game and Fish Departments, New Mexico
Natural Heritage Program and the rare plant committees of both Arizona and
New Mexico.
When possible corporate officials like to assist projects on a volunteer
basis. Examples of this have included vegetative surveys of Aplomado
Falcon habitat in Mexico, a bird banding project at Research Ranch and Buenos
Aires National Wildlife Refuge, leading field trips for both
federal and private entities, and T & E plant clearances and surveys.
Reports written in connection with funded projects are available to the public
on request and normally at no charge. A bibliography of reports
available is included at this web site.

Credit and a big thank you are due to a number of people who have helped us bring T&E, Inc. into being. We would not be here were it not for Dr. Laura Huenneke and Dr. Richard Spellenberg who offered so much encouragement and needed advice. Randy Travis, CPA expertly directed the steps needed for our status and remains an important advisor. David Wootten volunteered to create a web page for our organization and we are most pleased with his efforts. Most of all, though, our thanks go to our project review committee, who unfortunately must remain anonymous . Never could we have dreamed to end up with a group so dedicated and complementary of each other and so dedicated to what we are about. Thank you all.
